iMac compatibility help

I have an apple mac from 2016 and i want an iMac as an extra screen. Does it matter what one i get are they all conpatible? Ive seen a refurbished IMac 9 will that be ok? I’m not a heavy user just internet browsing and excel etc

2001 iMac Is there anyway to bring an old iMac up to current day standards? I am trying to set myself up with a second screen, but unsure if i should: 1) Use super old iMac 2) Buy a display screen 3) Get a second laptop 4) Would the Mac Mini boost it? Upgrade to what? I have a 2013 macbook pro 15", and a 2013 imac 27". I'm going to consolidate and get just one new 2022 machine. Mostly used at home for photography. Photoshop is having a problem with graphics and I don't want to change the card or have a bolt on. Could I use the Imac screen as a big screen off a new MacBook air or Macbook pro? I have seen something about incompatibilty of new MacBooks with old screens. And I just can't decide which machine to change to!

+ 1 with dialabrain, just get an external display its the only thing that will work.
