how to (re?)install software on an iMac G3

I recently purchased an old vintage iMac G3 thinking it would be fun to mess around with, but have run into some issues.

My iMac has a disk loader on the bottom (other forums kept asking the users for this detail) and is a bondi blue G3 running on Mac OS 8.5

The "about this mac" screen says it has System Enabler 462 1.1,

96mb of built in ram

97mb of virtual ram used on untitled

The main problem is that almost everything I try to open says I need to install applescript or quicktime 3.0, I have no idea where to start going about that. I would assume that my mac would come with AppleScript. Any ideas?

Normally, one would expect the necessary components to become installed when a system software CD for the computer in question is used. Do you have access to the Mac OS 8.5 disc? If not, and if the computer otherwise is working OK, you could possibly try a Mac OS 8.6 update (Mac OS 8.6 Update: Document and Software).

Unfortunately, one cannot use a USB flash drive for file transfers to the iMac G3 (at least not yet; Mac OS 8.6 and the USB Mass Storage Support 1.3.5 need to be installed first), but you should be able to burn a CD-R (do not use CD-RW) on a more modern Mac (or even PC). The iMac G3 running Mac OS 8.5 should be able to read ISO9660 format CDs. Keep the Mac OS 8.6 Update .bin (MacBinary) file encoding intact until on the iMac G3. Decode on the iMac G3 using an appropriate version of StuffIt Expander (you may have to download and transfer StuffIt Expander 5.5 to begin with, and decode that file using an earlier StuffIt Expander version already on the iMac's hard disk).
