Screenshot freezes Dock in expanded mode blocking image

Is there a fix for "Screenshot" to prevent freezing the dock? When fully expanded (in order to select and open said "screenshot" app) the dock remains fully "shown", concealing the image I am trying to screenshot in the first place.

(see below: I if I wanted to screenshot the post, the dock is perpetually in the way)

You could try going to "System Preferences/ Dock" and check "Automatically hide and show the Dock".
