Dell Monitors OK?

Question

Dell Monitors OK?

I want to get a monitor, for not too much $ that has VGA and HDMI. Has anyone used a Dell ST2210 (or that 'family) with the new MacBook Pro 15inch? Is it fully compabitle (good resolution fit etc?)

It should run just fine. The MBP will detect it's resolution capabilities. You'll just need an adapter for one of the connections on the monitor. I use a Dell U2410 with my 13" MBP.

I just got the Dell monitor, set it up. I purchased an HDMI to minidisplay port converter that should support audio (according to the web)....I don't get any sound when I plug in an unpowered speaker...? Is there something special I need to do?

But more importantly....I'd like to have my MBP closed, but the monitor (Dell) still on. But when I close the lid to my MBP, both monitors shut down. How do I use the Dell as the only monitor, and leave my MPB closed?
