attempting o copy to the disk "macintosh HD" failed. the required folder cannot be found.

I am getting this message when backing up my iPhone with Mac. It is in step 6 of 6 Preparing to copy and can't finish. This has never happened before so what can I do to insure my backup is complete?

Check your hard drive for errors with disk utility. May also pay to check for malware with a trial of https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/.
