It is perfectly safe to download software from sites other than Apple’s. A vendor site such as Steam is perfectly okay to download from - aggregation sites and torrents not so much. While 3D games are resource hungry, so is lots of other software. No one ever asks if it is safe to run Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop or Logic Pro, software that is also resource hungry. The prime danger would be thermal damage - overheating - and like all computers, the Mac has thermal sensors which will shut the computer down if it approaches dangerous heat levels. In all my days of using a Mac (and I’m a gamer) the only time that’s happened to me was when I was outside in the direct sun. The overheating was caused by the morning sun, not the computer.

Thanks for the answer, so it means it safe to play high graphics games in Mac even it is not from apple App Store. the only thing that ruin the computer is overheating due to over used and not placing in ventelated table.

Just make sure your computer meets the system requirements for the games or other software so they run properly.

Also, just because an app is available in the Apple App Store, does not mean the app is good or problem free. There is a lot of junk apps in the App Store. You should always do your research before installing software no matter where the app comes from.
