cannot ping time capsule

i'm attempting to set up a wireless LAN with a Time Capsule as the router (and server). this LAN will not connect to the internet. i need to be able to ping the server in order to run a server-mounting script for some custom software i'm using (for exhibits at a museum).

i have all machines able to see the Time Capsule in Finder and in Airport Utility, but none can ping the Time Capsule at the IP visible for it in Airport Utility. i've tried this both with DCHP and a Manually-set IP address.

do i need to somehow enable ping response on the Time Capsule? why would i be able to see the server but not ping it?

thanks....

ah, that makes sense. sorry, i'm not very familiar with network admin.

so i'm now pinging 10.1.1.1, and get this response:

36 bytes from 10.0.1.1: Destination Net Unreachable
Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst
4 5 00 5400 6b06 0 0000 40 01 f99f 10.0.1.2 10.1.1.1

so, closer, but still end up with a "100% packet loss"....hm. am i misreading the results or something?

10.0.1.1 I think is what you meant.

Open AirPort Utility to check to see what address is showing
Click on the Time Capsule on the left.
There's info in the window to the right

It might be 10.0.1.2 if you have it connected to another router. Or, if someone changed the setup, it could even be in the 192.168.1.1 range.
