iCloud photos not optimising properly

I have iCloud photos turned on, I've checked and it is set to optimise Mac storage. I have 2TB of iCloud storage and currently there is approx 150gb of photos/videos in my iCloud, however there is also 200gb of photos/videos on my Mac.

I don't understand why this is the case, can anyone help?

Why more GB used on iCloud Photos than on local Macbook Photos library I have an older Macbook 10.13.6. It has optimized storage enabled, iCloud is enabled on my Macbook, iPhone and iPad. But I'm unclear why my iCloud Photos take up 80GB of space but my Macbook Photos Library only shows 26GB of space. It seems like all my photos aren't in my Photos Library.

Photos taking more space on Mac than on iCloud I am using iCloud Photos and my settings are like this: Now, my photos occupy 4.4 GB on the iCloud: but 7.37 GB on my Mac (according to System Settings/General/Storage): or 7.5 GB (according to Finder): I'm not really worried about the storage space since I have plenty but I'm wondering why the discrepancies. What is the real total size of my photos and why do I get three different numbers?

The optimize feature is only invoked when you are low on storage on the Mac.

How much free space on the Mac?
