time machine

hello

my macbook pro is getting faulty and may need replaced.

My question is, does time machine make a complete clone of your laptop as a back up?

I am hoping if i get a new macbook, my time machine will restore my macbook how it used to be,

i have lots of work on my macbook and hoping i wont have to reinstall it.

thanks

Apps are also backed up.

FWIW I only back up my data. The reason I do this is because when I get a new computer I want it to perform like a new computer. New computers have new hardware that may not be compatible with existing apps or configurations may not be the same. But many who transition to a new computer just migrate their data and apps.
