Companies support products and software only for so long. The software will keep working until you upgrade the OS to an incompatible version. It is up to the user to check for software compatibility before upgrading their OS.
The answer is, "Apple provides its Numbers spreadsheet free with MacOS." Numbers can read and write Excel documents if you ask it nicely.
If you insist on using Microsoft Excel, you have to put up with whatever arbitrary changes (and charges) Microsoft decides to make.
Well, no you don't need an answer from Apple, as they don't make Excel. That's a question for Microsoft, who do make it.
