What does Apple Care cover?
I have 12 more days to purchase Apple Care on my new IPhone XR. Does it make sense to get? What does it cover? What does the original 1 yr warranty cover?

Depends on what version you get. At least in the US only AppleCare+ is available and there's a version with theft/loss protection.
It's kind of a combination of extended warranty, extended phone support, and accident/theft/loss insurance. The insurance part comes with what are essentially deductibles.
