Resetting the SMC on a 2012 Mac Mini

I have come across two sets of instructions regarding the above. Of the two sets described below, which if any, is the one that is best for a 2012 Mac Mini quad core i7 2.6 gHz machine?

A: 1. Shut the machine down. 2. Unplug it from the power. 3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. 4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

B: 1. Shut the Mac down and unplug the power cord. 2. Wait 15 seconds with the Mac unplugged. 3. Plug the power cord in and wait 5 seconds. 4. Turn on the Mac

As I posed the two above choices to AMUG, my AZ macintosh Users group, one member replied that it depends upon the year of the Mac mini and I should find out which one of the above is recommended. So, that's why I'm posting my query.

An SMC is only applicable to Intel-based Macs. That would be pretty much every Mac mini model since the Early 2006 model (Macmini1,1). Prior to that, they came with G4 PowerPC processors.
