Can I delete photos from my iPhone once they've been stored on iCloud without deleting them from the iCloud?

To free up storage on my iPhone, can I delete photos on my phone once they've been uploaded to my iCloud, and not have them also deleted from the iCloud?

iCloud is a syncing system, not an external 'hard drive'. If you delete them on your device, they will delete from iCloud. To increase space available, go Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and select Optimize iPhone/iPad Storage. That will reduce the space required by about 90% when fully effective.
