SMS Text Messages not Forwarding from iPhone to iPad

I just changed my cell carrier and my SMS text messages are not being received or sent by my iPad. This was working fine prior to the carrier change. iMessages are working as they should. I have been researching various solutions on the internet and all of my settings are correct. I have the iPad linked to the phone and am using the phone number as the Send/Receive source. I have turned off the phone and the iPad several times to see if they would sync, but they do not. Could this have to do with the carrier? It is Verizon and this had worked in the past when I had Verizon previously. Any suggestions are appreciated. By the way, the messages are showing up on my Apple Watch.
