Resetting Apple Watch

Forgot my watch password and followed instructions to unpair and delete content via phone. Now my Apple Watch app is stuck on the pairing screen, but my watch is still asking for a passcode. I tried the “hold down side power bottom” trick but it never gives me the option to power off or delete content it just resets showing the Apple icon and turning back on showing the passcode screen again.
