set up new cell phone provider at apple store

Hello, all!

I want to go into an apple store and get a new phone, however I don't have a cellular plan. I am on my parent's plan and want to start my own. My question is; is this possible to do at an apple store or does the phone plan need to be set up prior? Thank you!

Would I have to do it through AT&T, or could I literally use any other service (cell) provider? I then have that account separately and in my name only?

Apple is a licensed agent for all of the major carriers in the US.

They can set you up, provided you pass the necessary credit checks by the carrier you choose.
