"Sign in to use this application on this computer" - grayed out, can't sign in

When I try to use a particular app purchased from the App Store, I am getting a request to sign in — but the fields are all grayed out, so I cannot type my Apple ID or password. I've tried various strategies including deleting the App and re-downloading, but nothing works.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Very interesting. Indeed, when I opened the app in a new admin account, I was able to enter my AppleID password and use the app. But more interesting still, when I returned to my normal account, the problem had been solved — which I didn't anticipate and I gather you weren't either.

Thank you for your help.

No, In didn't expect that even though I've seen this exact "miracle cure" 2 or 3 times before for assorted problems, strangest part is just logging out & back in, nor restarting, nor Safe Mode, nor anything else worked! :)
