IPhone XR front camera terrible, blurry and has beautified effect

Just got the IPhone XR and the front camera is terrible. It looks smooth and has the beautified effect. The quality looks just like an Android. The colours are dull and it is so blurred. How can I fix this? Can this be something apple can fix with and update. This is terrible! Apple phones are known for their good camera quality while android is known for its terrible/low quality and now apple has downgraded. I just want the good camera quality back

Congratulations on your new iPhone XR! If I understand your issue, after taking some photos with the iPhone you've noticed that it appears there is an issue with how the FaceTime camera takes photos. Specifically, it looks like it has been overly smoothed and the lighting is off. I'm happy to help!

The iOS 12.1 update addressed an issue where while using the FaceTime camera, the closest reference wasn't used to focus the picture. This can cause foreground subjects to look slightly out of focus, and as if they've been smoothed out. Updating to the latest version of iOS, 12.4.1, should resolve this issue for you, per About iOS 12 Updates - Apple Support.
