Using two external monitors

I have two external monitors hooked up to my Macbook Pro. When I close the lid on my macbook, the two monitors mirror each other. Is there a way to have them not mirror each other and have one be used as an extended display?

Try using extended desktop mode instead of mirror display mode. Mirror display also mirrors the display resolution. Extended desktop mode allows you to select the native resolution of the external display.
