No, you don't have to use a mount, although it´s easier to use.
To start head tracking turn on headtracking in Settings->Accessibility->Switch Control
Turn on Switch Control
Open Scanner menu
Select head tracking - ready!

There is a new head tracking method under switch control. more than tilting the head! Switches can be i.e. "smile", "tongue out", "open mouth"
But I don´t find a way, how to use it on iphone xr. is there a manual?
Hello,
Are you referring to Accessibility’s Switch Control? iPad’s camera can be used as 2 switches in Switch Control. The switches consist of tilting the head to the left or right.
Hi Khenkel27, sorry, but i don't work for Apple yet. I have found this headtracking feature in a website called ablenet.
They are having a good guide, you can find it at google (ablenet ios 13 tongue). Also look for https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201370
The feature is very hard to use. I hope, they will improve the usability of headtracking and show a video for examples of use.
Hi, I saw it the menu in Accessibility->Switchcontrol on my Iphone XR. You need a device, which supports Face-ID
Hi Mickeyr3808,
Its no eye tracking. It is working with switch control and face-expressions. With all decices, using Face-ID
The instructions don't match iOS 13's Settings navigation or some key setting are not stated.
Step 3 does not match iOS 13
Where is Scanner Menu?
I know I can pull it up via a switch but it doesn't just pop up?
The only place I see Head Tracking is lower down under a sub heading "Point Scanning"
Hello,
Where did you hear about the new switch methods?
Very cool! I was unaware that devices with a TrueDepth camera had this functionality. Thanks for the tip!
Does this work on the other the iPhone 11 I have Muscular dystrophy and my arms don’t work so I am wondering can the eye tracking also any videos on how to
I believe head tracking is only compatible with the iPad Pro. Head tracking will use the eyes to make selections. However, I believe it only works on certain applications within the iPad Pro.
Werner181 do you work for Apple? The iPad Pro DOES have head tracking that utilizes the eyes to make selections on certain applications... does not require a switch. It seems that Apple's accessibility team is not even aware of this feature so they cannot help but it is there! I am a speech pathologist and have already used it on the app Predictable. I am not very impressed with head tracking feature on the iPad; hence, why I thought maybe a mount would help but so far it has not. I would love to work with someone from Apple who does know about this feature and can provide support. After all, they are selling the product and its being advertised.
