Left airpod no longer working

My left airpod no longer chimes and no longer works when connecting with my phone. My phone says my airpods are connecting, but only the right airpod plays music. I have tried reconnecting etc. but can't seem to get it to work. I tried forget this device etc. but does't work either. No matter how long I hold the connect button on the back of the charger it does not go amber ever.

Please can someone help. Very annoying this has happened just as I am outside of warranty.
