No sound is coming from my MacBook Air. It has Mojave 10.14.6 and is 2014 model.
I don't know why but when I use iTunes no sound either and it does play.

You could try restart in Safe mode, then repair permissions; and restart normally.
• Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
And then check settings to see if they appear correctly. You would need to login
with admin user account with password, to enter Safe mode. (To Exit, use restart.)
Another test may be reset NVRAM, instructions here; though detailed, could help.

Thank you for your help. I did restart in safe mode and the external speaker was missing there as well. I also tried the other reset with the four keyboard depressed on the start up. I notice now that a chirping noise has developed on the top left of the keyboard. I probably need a new sound board and a fan. Looks like I need to take the MacBook in for repair.
Thanks again.
I have check the sound on Preferences and it says No Output Devices Found
Yes it was the fan and I need the new sound board
