I have found my lost iPad but now it’s asking for a 6 digit passcode but my passcode is 4 digit. It also is in airplane mode. How can I fix the passcode issue?

It sounds like what you're seeing is the 6 digit code for "Two Factor Authentication", not your passcode. Do you have another Apple device signed into the same iCloud account that your iPad uses? (iPhone, Mac, another iPad?) Go to the other devices for the prompt to get the code on the other device, then enter that into your iPad.
If you do not have another Apple device on the same iCloud account, you should see an option below the 6 digit code prompt to allow you to get the code via your designated phone number associated with your Apple ID.

I only have two factor authentication on my iPad, and there is no prompt to get a code under the 6 digit code prompt
You should see "Didn't get a verification code?" below the 6 digit prompt. Tap that and select the phone call option.
