I have to report to the police the serial number of my stolen MacBook (I didn't preserve the box)
In my ID apple account I can see the device but without its serial number
In ICloud's "My Devices" the serial number is there but obscured (I can read only the last five characters)

What we've told you (and the content of the link I posted) is pretty much the extent of what can be done. I can toss in the obligatory, "Contact Apple" but most Apple stores don't even remember computer models from 8 years ago and I sincerely doubt they would have that detailed a record of a sale in their archives unless the ones in your area are real packrats.
If computer is dead from bad RAM, also cannae find model year, etc. This needs to be easier...
Have you tried looking on the outside case of the computer?
No, I don't. (I bought it 8 years ago, I don't even live in the same house)
The computer has been stolen, so I can't look on it. Maybe can be found if the thief try to resell it, if I communicate the serial number to the police as "stolen"
