Photos in iMessage disappeared after ios13 update

After updating to iOS 13, all photos previously sent and received through iMessage are gone. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution?

I am experiencing the same: After the update to iOS 13.0, photos sent and received under iOS 12.x are not present under "info" in imessage (but they are if I scroll up through the message history). If I send or receive a photo after the update, they are present in the "info" section. Is this a known bug? Known fix?

That’s good at least. And oh no about the photos and videos thing... Let us know if that finally finishes downloading. I don’t want to do a restore for it to only end up messing up my photos and videos.

It looks like it is mixing things up then if it is showing that live thing. Even with the indexing fix there appears to be other problems (like inaccurate storage display, and also what you’re describing).

No.

the phone only needs to be connected for the software restore, once the iOS is restored you can disconnect it. If you are restoring from a computer backup you will obviously need to keep it connected for that as well.

once the data is downloaded back to the phone, you should keep it connected to power and wifi as much as possible to index.

if you disconnect when you reconnect to wifi / power it will resume where it left off.

So i used your process of connecting to itunes to restore to 13.2.2, then backed up from my iCloud backup after the restore was complete but still not having luck. After the iCloud restore i went into a larger thread with photos and it showed the "XX photos in iCloud" and clicked download. It then showed the "Downloading Messages from iCloud" when at the main messages screen, left it connected to power/wifi until the message went away, then went to check the messages and again nothing was there still.

Since then i've tried hard reset, log in/out of icloud, turn off/on Messages from iCloud backup and it's shown the "Downloading Messages from iCloud" several times yet nothing when it's finished.

Any ideas here? Is restoring to 13.2.2 through itunes then doing the iCloud backup not work?

Thx

You have already done to many things that could have interrupted the indexing process.

After restoring your backup you need to wait and nothing more. Don’t click download and log in and out of icloud, reboot etc. These all can interrupt the index process.

here are you options at this point:

1) wait 24-48hours and see if they appear. Make sure you are connected to ac power and wifi during this time

2) start over: restore 13.2.2 again, then restore your backup to the device and just wait, no need to click download or anything else that you did. It is normal for nothing to show up for at least 12-24 hours after you restore your backup on the device.

choose your own adventure from above.

I have provided the fix above. Read up.

longstory short. If you haven’t already: use a computer to RESTORE to 13.2.2, load your backup back on the device and you must wait 12-24 hours for them to appear. Don’t go around clicking download and signing in and out. You must keep your phone connected to AC power and wifi during the first 12-24 hours. If you disconnect it will resume where it left off. It needs to

index. There is a bug in earlier versions of 13 that the indexing is broken and won’t work unless you restore your phone to the latest.

Read back a few pages to find the full instructions I posted to fix.

Like others I have followed th1ef's instructions to the letter and still no joy - in fact it's worse as I now don't even have any of the photos that were there since my initial install of ios13. Oh and I lost all of my Safari history too. I think this is more to do with an iCloud glitch rather than a bad install of ios13 on the phone itself.

Yes...both are no longer showing any history prior to the restore, however my voicemail history is intact. I am fine with this since I don’t reference my call history or Safari history that often..or really ever. I’m happy just having things indexed properly again...minus some older photos showing a runtime as if they are videos instead of photos.

So... Two days after my full restore (which didn't fix the problem) Apple have released an update (13.3.3) which CLAIMS to fix the problem: "Addresses an issue where photos, links, and other attachments might not display in the Messages details view"

I've installed the update and so far no change. But I guess I'll give it 24-48 hours before deciding if it's a failure.

I'm not sure if my situation differs. But there's the solution where if you go into the "i" button and scroll all the way down, you should see a pending photos you can download. I don't even have that option. I recently purchased a new iPhone 11 Pro and instead of transferring my profile over, I decided to use the new phone with a clean slate. So no profile transfer but keep using the same iCloud account. In all my previous devices, I have iMessage syncing to iCloud so I expect all my messages on the new phone to be present. This is true! It's all there, but when going into the info section where you can see all the photos, links, and attachments, none of those things show up from before the upgrade.

Did this issue get fixed? My iphone 8 in the text messenger thread once I went to info, I can see all the pics in the text thread. Upgraded to the iPhone 11 Max Pro and restored from latest backup. The restore was good and all text are there along with pics pics are in the thread, but there's no "see all photos" for me to view in the message thread. They are not displaying. Is there a solution?
