Esim for apple watch

Good morning, hello my name stevie and from Indonesia. I want to ask about connectivity for GPS + cellular.. In website there is no compatible network in Indonesia for apple watch cellular. Just in august, one of provider in Indonesia release esim. I asked them about how to use it in apple watch, and they said that this esim only compatible in iphone X XR XS. What do you think about this? Can I use that local esim in apple watch? Or there is any special qualification for esim that can be used in apple watch? And other question is when i buy GpS + cellular apple watch, but tgere is no esim that compatible to used, is it okay? I mean, can i just use apple watch without cellular connectivity as a normal?

Hope i can get the explanation, because i may buy apple watch 5 in titanium next month. Thank you.

An eSIM is a software bit of magic that has the same kind of information as the physical SIM cards, with the need for a physical SIM card.

The iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone XR have a physical SIM and an eSIM.

The cellular carrier is supporting an eSIM in those iPhones.

But that is not the same as supporting a cellular Apple Watch.

To support a Cellular Apple Watch, the carrier must be able to have 2 devices using the same phone number. That is not the same as an iPhone having a phone number from one carrier on the physical SIM and different phone number from a different carrier on the eSIM.

A Cellular Apple Watch requires special handling on the part of the cellular carrier.

A GPS only Apple Watch can do Everything the cellular model can do as long as your iPhone is nearby

The cellular can leave the iPhone at home while you go for a run, bike ride, hike (assuming there is cellular service where you are hiking), etc...

What the Apple Watch GPS-only can do without an iPhone (there is information about the cellular model as well)
