disable and deleting messages
What does disabling and deleting i messages for storage really do? can you bring them back after you disable it because I cant backup my phone until that space is free

Are you currently using Messages in iCloud? If so, the following support article provides more information about what happens if you turn this feature off:
iCloud: Store Messages in iCloud
"Turn off Messages in iCloud on your iOS device
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then turn Messages off.
- When you turn Messages in iCloud off on your iOS device, messages sent and received on that iOS device are no longer stored in iCloud, but will be included in your iCloud backup. Messages sent and received on other devices where Messages in iCloud is turned on continue to be stored automatically in iCloud."
