I recently changed batteries on my Apple wireless mouse in System preferences under Mouse it says 100% yet on the top left screen the icon shows empty. This is the first time this ever happened.
You might simply try restarting the computer. Sometimes it is surprising what a restart can clear up.
Do you maybe mean the Bluetooth Strength icon at top? 3rd from the left?
Could it be another device that is low on battery? On my iMac the trackpad is low but the keyboard and mouse are fully charged. Still the icon apparently reflects the device wanting attention:
No I don't have a trackpad on this. When I click on the battery icon my Mouse comes up and it directs me to Mouse again. Maybe it's just something I have to deal with. Don't go crazy. I recently updated to MAC OS High Sierra with the help of an Apple Tech. which helped me a lot. I have no idea if that had anything to do with it or not. Thanks for trying.
No the 4th from Left is the Battery Icon ( between Bluetooth & Wifi) and usually that will fill up black when 100% full. This is the 1st time it hasn't worked.
