watch os 6 update stuck on "verifying"

Reset your Watch by pressing in the crown and side button until you see the Apple logo, then release both.

After restarting my watch, I repetitively get an error message on the app “unable to check for update”. Now what?

Once watch comes back on, is there anything else to do, like restart the update or just let it continue?
