4K Upgrade

Why do I have to pay for a 4K upgrade of „Alien“?

In 2017 the promise was to get automatic upgrades for movies in the library.

If you bought it directly from iTunes it should have upgraded to 4K when it became available.

Why do you think it is not upgraded?

Does it not show the 4K badge in your Movie library on the Apple TV 4K?

Do note you need to have a decent internet connection, and a 4K compatible TV and high speed HDMI cable for the Apple TV to play the movie in 4K.

I bought it on the iTunes store as part of the Alien Anthology bundle in June 2017.

In September 2017 the promise was

“Bring the magic of the cinema straight to your living room with the new Apple TV 4K,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Customers will love watching stunning 4K HDR movies from an impressive catalog on iTunes, while also getting automatic upgrades of 4K HDR movies already in their iTunes library and enjoying 4K content on services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, coming soon.”

Sounded very good to me. Bought an Apple TV 4K right away. I thought there was no restriction. Now this. Very disappointing.

Yes, it should have, but sadly has not.

I have no idea why it is not upgraded. This is why I came here.

No 4K badge. Neither in the library nor on the Apple TV 4K.

I have a more than decent 250 mbit/s connection, which I has always helped me to enjoy a number of movies (which I bought in 4K or which indeed got an upgrade) on my wonderful 4K compatible TV by LG using of course a high speed hdmi cable.
