The iPhone 11 uses a Dual SIM - Nano-SIM and eSim

I want to upgrade from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone XR or an iPhone 1 . Can I use the same SIM card I use now for my iPhone 6 or does one need to get this special Dual SIM? I travel to other countries which use only a nano-SIM. Does the iPhone 11 have the capacity to change sim cards when one travels from country to country?

iPhone XR

Hi rbfrank,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand you have a few questions with regard to Dual SIM. I'll be happy to help.

The iPhone 6 uses a Nano-SIM card which is compatible with the iPhone XR and iPhone 11. Therefore; you'll be able to use the same SIM card. The iPhone 11 uses a Dual SIM (nano and eSIM). An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular plan from your carrier without having to use a physical nano-SIM. Here's a helpful article with additional details: Using Dual SIM with an eSIM

Cheers!
