Password not working iMac

Hi my iMac suddenly does not accept my password. What can I do

Which password, are you referring to your Administrator password or your AppleID? Your question is not complete so we need to ask. If it's your Administrator's password please do the following:


  1. Restart the Mac while holding down the Option key, and double-click the icon for the Recovery partition. ... 
  2. Choose Utilities > Terminal.
  3. In Terminal, type resetpassword .
