iphone 11 saving edited images as .plist

My iPhone 11 is saving edited images as .plist files

This has not been the case in other versions.

Is this some sort of bug?

running ios 13 on iPhone 11

(I had to select iPhone XS since there is not an iPhone 11 option yet)

So I just got off the phone/screen share with an Apple engineer and he was very helpful. Are you using Box when uploading by chance? If not, what service? Because if you upload the photo through the share sheet built into iOS. It uploads the file as the correct format. It’s only when uploading WITHIN the app that it separates the file as adjustments.plist. He explained its most likely an update on the apps end as apples share function is working properly. Try uploading your photos through the share function. Hopefully that’s a temporary fix for us until the apps are updated.

it is saving the changes (adjustments) as a plist. Starting with iOS 8 through iOS 12 it saved them as an .aae sidecar image edit file, which was supposed to be an industry standard, but other than Adobe the industry did not pick up on it. It is not saving the image itself as a parameter list, only the adjustments.

Thanks for the post and trying to get this issue resolved but I don't know if I agree that it's just an APP issue.

I'm sure it's a compatibility issue at its core but I was having issues sending edited images/screenshots as text attachments. However, if I tried to upload an edited image through the Fleep app for example, it would convert the image to .plist but if I select that image and go to share --> more --> Fleep and upload it that way, it does upload correctly. It's a bit of pain, especially if I have to leave the app that I'm on, find the image and then share it, but it is a work around.

Thanks!

Same here, I updated to 13.1 and the issue remains. I submitted an official bug report to Apple a few days ago and have not heard anything back, as of yet. I'm afraid with all the issues I've been hearing about, this probably ranks lower on the totem pole for Apple... which stinks, because I use this feature a lot. I've been using a 3rd party app to edit or crop photos as a work around, but this is extra step I shouldn't have to take.

It’s for sure something Apple did, because this was ever an issue before iOS 13. But I am confident that once developers become aware, it will hopefully be remedied. The Apple engineer said due to the fact it upload properly through the share sheet, the apps upload feature itself is what’s separating the edits from the actual image. I hope the issue is solved quickly. Because when uploading through the share sheet, there’s usually an upload limit(10 images in my case) where as uploading through the app is unlimited and in the background.

Yup. On 13.1.2 and the issue still persists. Like you, I fear this issue is extremely low on apples radar. I unfortunately use the edit feature daily, so this is inconvenient to say the least. Hopefully if enough people comment Apple might address it. I’ll be submitting an official bug report too. I’ll also be messaging Apple through the business chat.

When I take a pic or a screenshot it is being saved as a .png -- However, when I run into a problem is when I EDIT the image or screenshot. For some reason that changes the format to .plist -- This did not happen on my 8 plus, I don't think that it should be happening now.

In settings > camera > format is set to "high efficiency" if I change it to "most compatible" it still does the same thing.

They are not being saved to a Mac, just my iPhone.

Thanks
