Easily view consecutive photos in full screen, with zoom option?

I have downloaded over 500 photos from a Canon camera to the hard drive of my Mac Pro.

I am not yet backing them up to iCloud as I want to pare them down to the best before backing up those. I would like to be able to look through them, full screen (or close to), one at a time, with the option to be able to zoom in. I can currently look at a photo more or less full screen using Preview, but I see no way to view the next photo without closing Preview and opening the next--very time-consuming and clunky. Is there a FREE app I can download (or already have?) to enable easy viewing and zooming in?

Thank you!

Mac Pro

To see the system version click the  in the upper left corner if the main menu bar and select "About this Mac".

If you are using Mojave, the Preview.app should suffice. Just select several photos at once when you open them in Preview.

You can use the Photos.app also for photos taken with a Canon camera. It is not limited to iPhone photos, and you do not need to use iCloud with Photos. it is optional.

Are you using the Photos.app to browse your Photos or only the Finder and Preview? Which system version is installed on your Mac?

If your Mac has enough RAM you can select several photos at once in the Finder and double-click the selection. The Photos will open all in Preview and you can step them in the sidebar, at least on macOS 10.14 Mojave. I am frequently using Preview to weed out bad shots, before importing the remaining photos. There is no problem, eevn woth hundred photos selected at once. Set the sidebar in Preview to show the thumbnails. You can ctrl-click a thumbnail to move the photo to the Trash (Bin), directly from Preview.
