how to airplay to my home stereo?
Hi, I just upgraded to iOS13 for apple arcade and appleTV+ and suddenly the airport express (generation 1) that I have been using for over a decade, no longer outputs any audio through the audio jack.
I have the last firmware update, so figured I was toast. Am I right? And I started looking around for something that would replace this function and having a lot of trouble getting the same environment.
- I've tried using an old android box via kodi but it seems airplay is proprietary and no longer supported.
- I've looked into some adaptors like AudioCast, but it relies on software, so if my friends come by to connect with their phones won't they need to download their own software?
- I've looked at macworld's "how to add AirPlay to Any Speaker" which idea of using a raspberry pie, and wifi dongles, etc. but I am wary of ordering a bunch of stuff and slapping it together only to have it not work. If it didn't work on my android box running "leia" why would it work on kodi on a raspberry Pi?
- I guess I could cave and just go to a bluetooth option but that drastically cuts down on my range and also less sound quality.
- I could get an old laptop or mac mini but that might cost and I'd have to keep booting it up all the time.
- i could get a home pod but it wouldn't sound as good or have as much power as my current system so that would bug me.
So I realize apple no longer supports airport, but with the latest iOS updates, suddenly this tiny little audio-out function no longer working has left me silenced. What is the best way airPlay my iphone 7 to my old 90's stereo, (with an amp and wires and speakers, turntable), which is perfectly good!
