FaceTime is greyed out in settings; app won't allow child to connect

My child is unable to login to FaceTime. She has never used it before, but is old enough now to use it to communicate with friends. When you click on the app, it says you need to sign in with your Apple ID to activate FaceTime. Her Apple ID is listed correctly in the box, but for password it simply says "required" and will not allow us to type it in.

When you look at FaceTime in Settings, it is greyed out. It cannot be selected. In her privacy settings, when I access them with the passcode, it says that FaceTime is allowed. How do we get FaceTime up and running on her iPad?

Good afternoon caitlinfromhamburg,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand your child is unable to log in to FaceTime on her iPad. Is her Apple ID unique and separate from yours? To check the Apple ID password, see if she is able to log in to her Apple ID account at the Apple ID website. If the password does not work there, then it may need to be reset.

Create, manage, and use an Apple ID

If you forgot your Apple ID password

Change your Apple ID password

What to do after you change your Apple ID or password

Restart the iPad and try logging into FaceTime again. If the issue persists, review the resources below:

If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care.
