Then I think it safe to say the drive is dead. As a last resort you could see https://joshhighland.com/2006/03/29/fix-your-ipod-by-spanking-it/ or open up the case and try to reseat the drive connector. Alternatively you can look into your options for replacing the drive with a similar unit or an SD adaptor.

The hard drive has probably failed. See If you see a red X icon on your iPod classic or iPod nano (5th generation or earlier) - Apple Support and/or Corrupt iPod Classic. Are you able to access the diagnostics screens?

I cannot access the diagnostic screens
As crazy at it sounds smacking the back of the IPod made it turn on and connect to the computer. I appreciate you and the time you took to help me.
