What can I do to select "tile" for my Desktop Background

For Changing the desktop background, I have selected a directory, and checked that pictures are shown in random order. This works.

However, I would also like to use "tile" for showing the pictures. I can choose "Fill Screen", "Fit to Screen", "Stretch to fill screen", and "Centre", but "Tile" is greyed out.

What can I do to enable this option?

Desktop wallpaper, cannot choose Tile anymore In the desktop pictures I could use as wallpaper, I usually picked a small drawing and then used tile to have it reproduced across the desktop. Wallpaper : Icons and Text: How can I change the color of the text to make it much easier to read? I upgraded to the new sonoma... and with the wallpaper pictures in the background, it's much more difficult to read the text underneath the small icons and folders on the desktop.
