Have you tried them in any other device to determine if the issue is with the headphones or your iPad?
Not likely an update. Odd that you say it happens on both iPad and iPhone, but when you plug them into anything else they work as expected. Have you tried any other headphones in your iPad? If you can try another pair of corded headphones to try, that would help.
Earphones works on everything except iPad and iPhone. This has just started happening in the last 6 mo. Could it be an update that has caused this problem? This is happening with other earbuds as well

These are Bose and have worked before many updates
Earphones plugged into iPad the music is stereo and the singers mike sounds like it is turned off. If I back the plug almost all the way out and barely put it back in it works as long as you don’t touch it
