i used to be able to open and read PDF's directly from the mail app on my phone but after update it seems to have made my default PDF viewer as an app that can't handle PDF's. can you tell the phone somehow how to deal and open PDF's as a default application?

The most common app causing this is ALIBABA. If you have that on your phone delete it, reboot phone and it'll work. Just spend hours with apple trying to solve it and that' she culprit. Good luck!

Yes same issue here. Does not open in Whatsapp too. Already raised this issue through apple support. They told me to update to 13.1.4. Even that too didnt help.
Now they told me to wait as this issue is being
experienced by many. So maybe an update or announcement will be issued soon.
I solved it: I first deleted apps, no solution, I than reset settings, no solution.
i made backup, did an erase everything, recovery from iCloud. Mail and WhatsApp pdf’s working again.
Same issue again after I updated to 13.1.2 today. Don’t want to have to restore every single time I update. Frustrating.
Seriously Apple. Get your **** together. I’m tired of the constant glitches with every new update release. There is absolutely NO WAY I should have to restore my device repeatedly to be able to use my device. You claim you’re market leaders however your software updates need to undergo some vigorous testing prior to releasing software to the consumers (who are paying a PREMIUM price to use your devices and software). You’re software have gone from great to bad to worse over the past couple of years. Devices are supposed to simplify tasks while operating on the go but the reality is, you’ve become a hinderance and completely unreliable. More and more I find myself booting up the laptop to perform tasks I could previously do on the iphone. / iPad. By purchasing the device I expect and am entitled to a fully functioning device with software that WORKS! to operate the device for its intended purpose. The Samsung devices are looking better by the day.
First i thought it was ok but after all apps loaded same problem accured!, now i deleted all (stop downloading after restore) apps. it seems to work up till now. i'll keep you posted.
probably there is an app causing this. I had 300+ apps installed. I didn’t let the restore download all the apps. Now i only install the app’s I need and it worked for me. I’ve now approx. 150 apps
