iPhone XS iOS 13 no data during calls

Hi, it appears that I am unable to use data connection during calls (see error message in picture here attached). I checked in the settings and 4G/LTE is activated for both voice and data.

I couldn’t find any help online so am turning to this community. Any advice ?

For the data symbol (LTE or 5G since I have a 12 Pro Max) on the top right hand corner next to the WiFi symbol, I only see four short lines moving from left to right, like in an intermittent mode.
