Lightning Drive support for iPadOS and iOS 13 in Files App

I have one of those SanDisk Lightning flash drives that I used in iOS 12 with the SanDisk iXpand Drive app. After updating to iPadOS, the drive still works with this app (thank goodness) but is not working or recognized in the Files app.

Anyone have an idea on how to get this drive recognized by the Files app natively?

Or if it's not possible, why not?

I'd much rather use Apple's Files app than the third-party app, if available and working.

Thanks for your input and thoughts!

Cheers,

I erased my iPad, installed a fresh new iPadOS, without success. I'm not trying to restore my backup and will see if it makes a difference. Not holding my breath. I just hope an update to fix this will come out soon. I need to be able to transfer pictures on my iPad when I'll be travelling in Europe in a few weeks.

I could at least transfer from an SD card before. I can't even do that now. Going backwards.

I have the iPad Pro 12.9 (latest generation) and when I connect my SanDisk SSD Extreme drive via a USB-C cable, it doesn't show up in the Files app. And when I use my USB-C SD Card Adapter from Apple, I can't see the contents either. Even the Photos app can't export from the SD card, which could be done in the previous version of iOS.

I'm relying on this for photo backup when I'm on the road. The SD Card Adapter worked before and I was hoping to have a second backup on my SanDisk SSD portable drive. Now, I can't even do one transfer.
