I tried everything suggested here. I rebooted my phone and watch. I made sure Voice Memos was turned on in my iCloud settings. I unpaired my watch and retired from backup. I rebooted again. I endured once again that Voice Memos was on. I unpaired and paired as new. I again checked the iCloud setting for voice memos. I rebooted both again. No luck. Memos showed up in my Mac but not on my phone.

Finally, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Voice Memos app on my phone. Works perfectly. Before going through the hassle of unpairing and re-pairing a watch, try this.

I fixed this issue.

Do not repair the device you will lose your recording.

Go to your settings on your iPhone and/or MacBook MacPro etc. and follow these instructions. The issue here is with your iCloud setting which you must have perfect to fix this issue.

On your Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Apple ID, click iCloud in the sidebar, select iCloud Drive, click Options, then select Voice Memos in the list of apps.

On your iOS or iPadOS device: Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then turn on Voice Memos.

Done; I exist to make life great.

This is a major issue of the Apple Watch sync.

I bought the watch last week, recorded an important meeting for 2 hours the same night.

The voice memo was not sync-ed even after a few hours.

I switched on iCloud -> Voice Memo Tab, my 2-hour recording on the watch is gone. The sync works fine while wiping the file in my watch, replacing with the iCloud old files.

Please DO NOT press the sync tab if you have recordings on your watch. It will wipe and replace them. I have gone to Genius Bar and called Apple Care. File is gone forever.

Please don't commit the same mistake that I did. It wasted a lot of my time and incurred a lot of stress due to the importance of the voice memo.

I agree! I deleted the app. Went to the app store, and reinstalled it. That did the trick finally. I wouldn't call this issue "solved", just yet. So I'll follow up with a post in a week or so. I record two lectures a week at about 60 to 70 minutes. And they so far have uploaded flawlessly on my iPhone since the reinstall. But I'd like to give it a little more time because I don't trust it.

I have had this problem intermittently and cannot seem to take any specific actions that permanently fix it.

Until the latest version of iOS I used a similar app 'Just Press Record'. I never had any problem with it and it performs the same functions as Voice Memos.

Until Apple fix the problem, I am going back to 'Just Press Record'.

Found a solution that worked for me from reddit.
Delete the app on iphone then re-download voice memo from app store.
Just make sure the icloud back-up is enabled on voice memo before deleting the app and do the process, wait sometime to resync afterwards.

I would be very careful before doing this. Several people including me lost voice memos when they did this. If there is anything on your watch before you delete the iPhone app, it will delete all your voice memos on your watch when you delete it from the phone, as it removes the app from the watch too.

fyi, just confirmed with Sr. Apple tech support that the Apple Watch 5 does not support voice memos syncing from your iphone, ipad, or macbook back to the Apple watch. I asked them to request a feature request to add this feature. The whole point of the watch is to carry more of your info with you on the go. What if you record a note on your ipad or iphone, but don't have them with you? There's no way to reference them from the watch. Really disappointed for the $500 I paid for the watch.

Over several and phone watch models, I've had this problem. After recently (for a separate problem), after factory reset on my late model watch with late model phone: briefly (for a couple of weeks), voice messages from the watch did sync (occasionally) with the phone and by now the usual state (no syncing) has resumed. Trouble shooting over time, with usual recommendations - re-pair the watch or 'get the latest update' and callback, etc. - has convinced me that syncing from watch to phone for this Apple app has never been ready for prime time, and unless you prefer to take notes on the watch and listen using the watch, you may as well save yourself some time and just use the phone.

I have not solved my issue, which is the same as the many posts here. However I have an iPad mini and an iPad Pro and it syncs to those devices. So there is some disconnect between the watch and the iphone which acts as the “master” hardware vis-à-vis the Apple Watch.

my experience, for what it’s worth, perhaps it will lead to some expert troubleshooting.

agreed. When re-pairing the iPhone/watch I lost my lecture of approximately 1.5 hours. I’m trying other app solutions now. Nothing so far has been perfect. None has the promise of the Apple voice memo stock app; Nor works at simply. It used to sync to my iPads, but not the iPhone, but then that failed.
