Hey friends,
So, I was super excited for iPadOS because I would finally be able to have two Pages docs open side by side. This would be great for editing, comparing notes, etc...
However, after installing iPadOS last night, I find I’m actually not able to open another instance of Pages in split view.
I’m I missing something, or is Pages exempt from this feature at this time?

This feature should be coming soon. When you check Apple's iPadOS site and tap the All New Features for iPadOS, it says this under Key Features and Enhancements for Multitasking:
Multiple windows from the same app
You can now open multiple windows from the app in Split View. Perfect for working on two notes or Pages documents, viewing two maps, or organizing files in the Files app.
So it should be on the way--hopefully, by the next iPadOS update. Looks like it didn't make the first round.

It is there now but just does not seem to work for all apps. As zmclearan mentioned, some apps have not been updated yet to use the feature. It works with safari but safari is baked into the iOS 13.1 installation whereas Pages, Numbers and a keynote are separate apps.

iPad's new multiple application windows feature is dependent on applications specifically implementing the feature. Apple has yet to update their iWork applications.

I am too looking forward to this update. I use Apple's iWork applications on my iPad all day/every day and I have been looking forward to being able to have multiple Numbers documents open at once.
Seems as Apple would be the first to update their own apps to take advantage of the new iPadOS. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Hope there will be an update in the very near future.
It is only a matter of time. iMovie and Clips were just updated so I suspect iWork as well as their other applications will follow soon.
Looking forward to this enhancement to Pages and hopefully Word.
