A great many items (songs) from albums have been automatically reloaded, so they are twice in the playlists of an album. I have too many of them to delete all doubles; moreover which ones to delete? One is on my mac, one is in the cloud. What to do?

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you may have duplicate songs in iTunes on your Mac. One reason is if it is showing songs in the iCloud Library and downloaded music. One thing you can do is in iTunes, go to View > Only Downloaded Music. This will only show that music and would not show them twice.
Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music
