iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Ok guys (and girls) try reading this article https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/circuitbreaker/2018/10/19/17514174/gorilla-glass-scratch-resistance-google-pixel-3-samsung-galaxy-s9-note

It discusses how yes, this glass can still scratch. It’s scratch resistant not scratch proof. And your pass iPhones got scratches too even if you say you didn’t experience them. Plenty of people (I use plenty loosely because our forum and others represent a small number of customers) have had complaints in the past. Not just with iPhones either. Please do as I and someone else that did it mentioned. Actually submit your complaints to Apple. Can’t say this enough. That or return your phones if using a screen protector violates your idea of being too much work for the price you pay. Amazon has cheap ones from numerous brands. Super shields has cheap ones (the non glass ones of if you prefer the tempered glass). $6.49 for a 6 pack of front only ($5.99 on Amazon) or $6.49 for 3 front and 3 back. I don’t suggest that pack for the pro model because the textured glass on the back won’t allow a screen protector to stick (tempered might though). This info is for those that want to get a protector not meant to make you feel like you must. Unless a recall happens and gets labeled scratch gate (has not the previous years and they all had a small percentage complaining of scratches too. Good luck.

Multiple posts in the same thread saying it never happened in the past when it’s not true isn’t very productive either. Productive would be reporting the issue to Apple (which someone else finally said they really did and suggested everyone else do the same because until you all do it’s the same issue that has happened to those that opted to not use protection on past releases and fell into the same small but frustrating precentage having an issue). It’s a forum. If you don’t like what is being said the beauty of it all is that you can opt to ignore the comments you don’t find to echo your views

The most fragile iPhone I have had was the 3GS. It was scratched all over the back, and the sides. And later, the display as well. But it did not happen within days, even weeks. It appears after more than one year of use.

I have micro scratches on my iPhone X on the bottom side from the Home screen gesture swipes, and it was the most scratches I have on the iPhone yet. It’s almost 30 months old.

Most posts here is the iPhone 11, and the 11 Pro models being scratched within days, even hours. The back posts referred by you, while similar in its context, somewhat differs in the timeframe. Individual accounts and experiences aside, there’s money in play here. iPhones 6, 7, and 8, are considerably lower priced than the iPhone 11 family, ones that are made with new generation of gorilla glass.

I, too, will likely end up paying more than the $45 restocking fee, because I will inevitably select another iPhone, and out of paranoia of having a repeat screen scratch experience, will select some kind of screen protector to install (despite the fact that given my usual treatment of phones and the level of scratch resistance that is reasonably expected to accompany a touch screen phone, I do not believe use of a screen protector should be necessary).

The screen also seems to attract way more dust, dirt and oil than my iPhone 6 did, although I am willing to overlook that. Perhaps, though, this apparent “attraction” could either A) be attributable to the same touch screen glass qualities that are causing scratches to appear out of “nowhere,” or B) be what is actually causing the scratches to surface in the first place...

So the links I posted also included complaints about the XS and Xs Max which are just a year old (because I had those too). And most of those complaining were new purchases that had then for days or within the first 14 days....just like you all. And at the time of those releases they had what Apple was their toughest glass yet. That was the point behind the links....to show the similarities that occur each time. At the end of the day it’s a complaint that happens every release. It’s extremely frustrating. I get that. Just because I opt to use protection because I have an end goal of selling mine for to dollar every year to lessen the cost of upgrading doesn’t mean I can’t understand what you all are feeling. I would be frustrated too but I also understand what risks I would be taking and more importantly if I felt so strongly there was an issue that Apple needs to address I would fight for it in a meaningful way...venting is great on a peer to peer forum but it won’t alert Apple to what could be a massive problem. Have to contact them for that. And they may not do anything at first. That’s fact. They may never do anything if it doesn’t pan out to truly be a defect like some think. That’s a possibility also. But regardless...you can’t help push them to have to even truly investigate if you don’t actually push them in numbers. Large numbers that have to be way for than some forum posts indicate (never try to assume masses based off of forum complaints). If it starts swelling trust it will become news on the huge tech sites (with their own examples of the issues occurring on their devices and not just reporting what customers on forums are saying). At the end of the day that has been my point...do action if you think this is a problem that glass can scratch at any time. Although to be fair...I’m not sure why people are assuming that scratches are time sensitive. It can happen at any time on any glass regardless of how tough it’s supposed to be (which in Apples case I think may refer more so shatters and cracks versus scratches but that’s my understanding. Others are clearly different).

Either way....that’s as clear as I can put it...fight the fight in the right way...understand that you may not get what you want immediately or at all but you can’t claim nothing was done if you didn’t do the legwork to fight it in the first place. And if that’s not something you feel you should have to do (which I understand too) then you have a closing window of time where you can return it and either get another one or decide if the scratch issue is a big enough deal breaker to steer you to something else.

I figured it out! Glas is an amorphous solid, and the new iPhone 11 Pro screen especially behaves like a non-Newtonian substance. It is the Rheology branch of Physics that deals with the deformation and flow of matter, especially the non-conventional (non-Newtonian).

For example jelly gel (starch based) is hard and almost impenetrable when beaten hard and fast, but soft when light pressure is applied slowly.

Now, in product testing and QC, Apple suppliers focused only on one end of the spectrum, that is hard impact and pressure. Totally failing to test the soft end. This is why soft cloth, a finger nail, or maybe even hard skin on a finger, can scratch the new iPhone 11 Pro display.

Yes. I have had my phone for 2 weeks. Pick it up one afternoon to notice a deep scratch in the upper right corner. Mind you I have had an iPhone every year since the iPhone 5s, and have upgraded every year without putting one of those silly screen protectors on it that ruin the experience. This is the FIRST time I’ve had a screen scratched. It’s a deep scratch too and my phone is always in a secure spot like my pocket. I have the iPhone 11 pro max Gold so the color has nothing to do with it. It’s the screen they installed on this thing. Apple needs to do something about this. If this is what will happen every time I buy one of their $1,500 phones I will need to reconsider.

Having the exact same issue, I bring my backpack with me most places and it has a nice soft pocket that is good for screens, I always put the screen in a spot where it won’t scratch and it still does no matter what I do. This screen is absolutely HORRIBLE, and I wish apple would be reasonable and explain how we can prevent this. It’s a PHONE, 99% of people put it in their pocket/backpack it isn’t supposed to scratch after LIGHT contact. Apple claims this is the “Most durable smartphone” I feel it is the antithesis of so.

I am experiencing small (but large in mass) pencil-led sizes scratches that are viewable at certain angles when the phone is either off or showing a black screen.

Apple, in my opinion should release a way cheaper option of fixing these hair-like scratches. It is completely unreasonable to be paying $49 (with apple care) or $250 (without apple care) to fix these scratches.

My Iphone11 had the same issue. Within 1 day, the screen had 2 deep scratch at left part screen and countless small starch around the screen. I went back to Apple store to complain the problem and of cause been told I need to pay to change the screen. Luckily after talk to their manger I were able to return the phone.
