When I go to Software Update it doesn't show me 5.3.1 or the newest 5.3.2

My series 4 watch is at watchos 5.3. When I go to Software Update it doesn't show me 5.3.1 or the newest 5.3.2. It says the following:

To update the software on your Apple Watch, you first need to update the software on your iPhone.

Go to Software Update settings.

I have an iPhone 6 and just updated to the latest version 12.4.2. I can't update to iOS 13 or watchos 6 because my iPhone is too old. That should not keep me from getting the latest security update for my watch which is stuck on OS 5. They did just release a security update for iOS 12 and that installed fine on my phone. Apple, please update your servers to allow this update for all watches, not just series 1 and series 2.

To the best of my knowledge 5.3.2 was for the Series 1 & 2 Apple Watches as a stop-gap while Apple worked on getting watchOS 6 working on the Series 1 & 2 Apple Watches.

Since the Series 3 & 4 can be upgraded to watchOS 6, Apple (or at least their software update tools) think watchOS 6 is what should be installed. The software update tools do not take into account that the owner has an iPhone 6 or older iPhone, and thus says you need to upgrade to iOS 13 first, which the iPhone 6 and older cannot do.

It is not a hardware problem, it is an installer issue.

But until Apple decides to fix their Apple Watch installer to take into account that iPhone 6 users cannot upgrade their Apple Watches to watchOS 6, you are stuck with watchOS 5.3.1.

You can give Apple feedback (the more feedback the better, as high numbers get attention better than just a single submission).
