Black Scree With Spinning Globe

Hi everyone,

I have a 2018 Macbook Air. I followed a youtube video on how to restore factory settings as i am going to sell it. I erased the hard drive (Macintosh Hd). Now on start up an apple logo appears, followed by the wifi drop box, after i put my wifi password in there is a black screen, followed by an endlessly spinning globe. No progress bar. Its been there 18 hours plus now. Great wifi signal strength. The command R i used on start up previously to erase the hard drive doesn't work anymore. It goes straight to wifi drop box on start up. Please help.

Most likely, the Wi-Fi connection is the issue. I suggest that you temporarily connect your MacBook Air directly to your Internet router by Ethernet. Since your MBA does not have a dedicated Ethernet port, you will need to get a USB-C-to-Ethernet adapter to accomplish this. These will come in very handy in the future should you ever need to do this again. If you really don't want to purchase an adapter, make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and they can assist you with this.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I have now purchased the adapter and connected it. The same thing is happening. Black screen, spinning globe with no progress bar. I will leave it for a few hours and see how it goes. Thank you again.
