iBooks / Books - remembering the page you are reading

I use iBooks on many devices (iPhone, iMac, iPad) but it hardly EVER remembers the page I was on. Which defeats the whole point of the application, in my opinion.

The only time it works is when I read a book on my prehistoric iPad 2, close the page I'm reading and return to the library. I see the Wifi symbol briefly flicker, and then when I open the book later on my other devices it takes me to the same page i left on the old iPad.

Which means that the OLD systems were more user-friendly than the new ones ! I read somewhere that to activate the same feature you need to activate iCloud Drive, which I DON'T want to do (I have confidential stuff in my documents which I most certainly don't want to - and can't - share over the Internet).

Please Apple, don't penalize users for NOT sharing all their personal data with you!
