Clean install of El Capitan to new SSD

Can not locate original disk and can not find download on internet. I still have the old HD but not connected at this time. I don't want to use it as I suspect corruption. Fred

Have you downloaded El Capitan before if so open the App Store and login with the Apple ID you used to download it originally and open the Purchased section and it should be there available for download.

Otherwise you can download El Capitan from here, How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

However if the App Store sees that your Mac can upgrade to a newer OS you will be refused El Capitan

so you can try the links for these,

How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support
